Ascension of the Lord Romanian Orthodox Church ("the parish") runs this website. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Piedmont, California. This page explains what information this site collects and what we do with it, in plain language.
The short version: we collect very little, we don't sell anything, and we don't track you across other websites.
What we collect
If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address and your consent to receive it. That's the only information the form asks for. We use it to send parish news and nothing else.
If you make a donation, your payment is handled by our payment provider on their own systems. The parish sees the information needed to record and acknowledge your gift — such as your name, email address, and the amount. We never see or store your full card number.
If you email us, we keep your message so we can reply and so we have a record of parish correspondence.
When you simply visit, our website host records ordinary technical information: pages visited, approximate location, browser and device type, and the time of the visit. This is standard server and analytics data. We use it only to understand roughly how the site is used and to keep it working.
Who else is involved
Our website is built and hosted on Wix, and pages are delivered through Wix's content network and Cloudflare. Wix also provides the site's analytics and error monitoring, so the technical visit data above is processed on their systems under their own privacy terms. Donations are handled by our payment provider.
We do not share your information with anyone else, and we never sell it.
Cookies
This site sets a small number of cookies that are necessary for it to function and to stay secure — keeping your session working, protecting forms against abuse, and filtering automated traffic. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not build profiles of visitors for marketing.
How long we keep things
We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe. We keep donation records for as long as our nonprofit accounting and tax obligations require. We keep email correspondence as part of ordinary parish records.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing us.
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address below and we will respond within 30 days. If a request would conflict with our accounting or tax obligations, we'll explain what we have to keep and why.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Photographs
This site publishes photographs of parish life, including services, feasts, and parish events, going back many years. If you appear in a photograph and would prefer it not be published, please contact us and we will remove it. You do not need to give a reason.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page.
